WHAT THEY LOST: All memory of his sisters. Dainn does care about his family and losing his memory of them will bother him greatly.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER: Black Dainn is one of the main antagonists of Boktai 2 and the second last boss. While he does show up right after Django's Solar Gun is stolen by a Vampire-turned Ringo, the Solar Boy doesn't meet him until he appears in the Remains, kidnapping Otenko and setting Ringo loose on Django and Sabata. He makes his next appearance in the Dark City when Django is trapped in his Vampire form and tries to convince him to join the Immortals but is stopped by Ringo, who has regained his memories. Dainn is unheard from until the Aqueduct dungeon where it's revealed that he's possessed Ringo so he can unlock Spiral Tower and release Jormungandr. He manages to do so but also meets his end on Spiral Tower when he's defeated by Django and Sabata.
The first thing, and most likely the only thing, people will notice about Dainn is that he's a manipulative person. The Shadow Immortal is content to move the pieces and let everyone else do the heavy work for him. He'll play on people's emotions and seems to enjoy doing so and with his possession abilities, Dainn is well-suited for this sort of thing. He's also shown to have a good deal of foresight, sending the Count to turn Ringo into a Vampire so Dainn could have a body later on (which takes place in the first Boktai game) and it's suggested that Dainn was the one who brought Shademan into the physical world so he could have another body. Dainn, like most Immortals, is set on following the Will of Dark and believes himself to be the true Dark Child, though it's unknown if he truly thinks this or he's just insulting Sabata. Dainn is also a good actor, able to pose as Ringo long enough to trick Django into getting the Tarot Cards that will unlock the seals on the Aqueduct.
While Dainn is fighting against human kind, he has shown some dislike for his own kind. He has called the Count useless and a fool for falling in love with Hel and the Queen herself as a 'joke'. He views someone's 'true form' as an illusion and something that is easily changeable like Light and Darkness. Like Sabata says, Dainn is a twisted being but has shown that he is capable of love but that's only reserved for his sisters and it's suggested that he's dotted on his youngest sister. While it would be possible for Dainn to form friendships it'll be a long time before he considers anyone a friend, especially a human because he views them as things that only hurt themselves, others, the planet that they live on and food for the Immortals. He thinks that the only way that the planet will survive is if the world goes through the Doomsday Reincarnation and wipe out the human race and that the Forces of Darkness are the only ones who can carry it out and its very unlikely Dainn will change his mind about this.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: The Castle was quiet tonight, the only thing making any noise was a slight wind moving through the empty hallways.
In the lobby, however, something was happening. The shadows that clocked the lobby in darkness shifted and moved like they were alive before someone rose from the ground, intangible until his feet reached the surface without making a single sound. Crimson eyes swept the lobby, betraying the amazement that the Shadow Immortal rarely felt or though he'd ever feel again since Ringo and Django managed to Purify him. But now...
"Well is this the afterlife for an Immortal?" Dainn asked out loud. "Seems quite nice, wouldn't you say Ringo?"
He began to walk around the lobby, occasionally phasing through the walls to see what was behind them, mind working over everything that he could remember.
Being Purified....Ringo preventing him from surviving....
"Did I succeed? Hahaha! Of course I did. That world was plunged into Darkness after I left it! I--"
Dainn stopped mid-sentence when he spotted a book lying on one of the couches. After a moment, the Immortal sent out a shadow claw to reach over and pick the book up for him since he couldn't physically do it himself and saw that his name was on it. He began to use it to flip through the book, seeing that there were more people here than what the empty lobby suggested. A small grin formed on his face. If these were humans, he wouldn't have to worry about food for awhile.
But then he saw a name. A name that made Dainn laugh so hard he thought his sides were going to burst.
"So, Solar Boy Django is here! Isn't this interesting...I didn’t think he’d die so easily! But this means I can have some fun here....”
Dainn brought the book even closer and began to ask a question as the shadows consumed the Immortal in darkness....
FIRST-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:[A soft voice floats through the journal, quite casual for someone who just found themselves in another world.]
I guess this is book is our means of communication, isn't it? I'm quite surprised that the afterlife would be like this.
[There's the sound of movement, but no footsteps. It's like the person has no feet.]
So tell me, is this what the afterlife for an Immortal is like?
[A pause, and then laughter.]
But if it isn't, would someone tell me if they've seen someone named Solar Boy Django? We still have a lot to talk about!
INTENT: Dainn has been one of my favorite characters in the Boktai series and I’d like to try playing a villain.
